St. Philip, our Saint

St. Philip the Apostle
Philip, one of the first followers of Jesus, came from the small town of Bethsaida in Galilee—a place not so different from our own close-knit community. Like many of us, his journey of faith began with a simple invitation. When Jesus called him, Philip responded with openness and trust, and then immediately reached out to someone else, bringing Nathanael to meet Christ. His story reminds us how faith often grows through relationships and shared moments.
Philip walked alongside Jesus during His ministry, witnessing miracles like the feeding of the multitude and asking honest questions as he sought to understand more deeply. In one moment, he asked Jesus to show them the Father—a heartfelt request that reflects the same longing many of us carry today as we seek to know God more fully.
Though the New Testament shares only glimpses of his life, tradition tells us that Philip continued to spread the message of Christ, carrying the Good News into new communities and cultures. His life is a reminder that each of us is called not only to follow, but to welcome others, to ask questions, and to grow together in faith.
In our own town, we share that same calling—to build a community rooted in love, connection, and a shared journey toward God. As we remember Philip on his feast day, May 3, may we be inspired by his example to reach out, invite others in, and strengthen the bonds that make our faith community a home for all.
